India is the largest producer of milk in the world today - thanks in large part to a Spartan. MSU alumnus Dr. Verghese Kurien was the architect of India's "white revolution" that transformed the country from a milk-deficient country to the world's biggest milk producer - improving the lives of millions of rural farmer families across India. His remarkable life and achievements are an embodiment of his faith in the ability of the common man to exercise control over his destiny.

In this public lecture, Mr. R.S. Sodhi, Managing Director of Amul India, will take the audience through a journey of Verghese Kurien's life and contributions, including the founding of Amul and its growth into a powerhouse as India's largest milk cooperative and food company. Mr. Sodhi will share his vision for Amul's future, and outline the opportunities and challenges in the context of India's growing middle class and the need for economic, environmental, and social sustainability.
